Trail Rules

County Ordinance #201

CAMPING - Not allowed

ENFORCEMENT - Any infraction of a duly adopted Trail Rule constitutes a misdemeanor and is punishable by law.

ENVIRONMENT - It is unlawful to injure or harm wildlife, property, ruins or plants within the trail corridor.

FIREARMS - Possession of all firearms and weapons is prohibited.  Shooting into a trail from beyond its boundaries is prohibited.

FIRES - Fires are permitted at designated sites within portable grills when properly attended.

HORSES - Horses are not allowed on the trail corridor.

HOURS - The trail is open 24 hours a day except where cities designate other hours within their city limits.  The trail may be closed by order of the Director.

LARGE GROUPS - A non-fee permit is required of organized groups containing 100 or more persons.

PEDDLING - Peddling and soliciting is prohibited.

PERMITS - Those claiming possession of a permit must be able to produce it upon request.  Permits are obtainable through the Stearns County Park Department and will carry the stamp of the department.

PETS - Pets are allowed within the trail corridor when attended and effectively restrained by leash, not longer than six (6) feet.  Pet owners are responsible cleaning any droppings left by their pet.

REFUSE - Refuse must be disposed of in designated receptacle, or if none is provided, the person that brought the item on the trail must haul it away for proper disposal.

SOUND EQUIPMENT - Use of stereos, amplifiers, and other electrical sound equipment will be allowed by permit only.

SNOWMOBILES - Snowmobiles with metal traction devices are prohibited from black topped trails.

• Snowmobiles must stay on the treadway of the trail.
• Maximum speed limit in cities is 30 mph unless posted otherwise
• Maximum speed limit outside city limits is 50 mph

TRAFFIC - Motorized vehicles are not allowed on the trail with the following exceptions:  Government officials in performances of their duties, emergency service providers, and approved contractors.

TRAFFIC SAFETY - It is unlawful for any person to operate or halt any motorized vehicle within the trail carelessly or heedlessly in disregard of the right of others, or in a manner that endangers or is likely to endanger any property or any person, including the driver or passengers of the vehicle.

• Trail signs must be obeyed
• When on trail treadway, all trail users must stay on the right half of the trail treadway when meeting or being passed by another trail user.
• Roller skiers who use poles must have a protective tip on the pole that does not penetrate the asphalt surface.
• HUNTING WILL OCCUR DURING LEGAL SEASONS NEXT TO THE TRAIL.  YOU ARE ADVISED TO WEAR BRIGHT CLOTHING DURING HUNTING SEASON.
