Lake Wobegon Trail Dedication - August 26,2007
Garrison Keillor will be in Osakis for this event.  The trail is now complete with the final piece of trail connecting Sauk Centre and Osakis.

Funding for the Forgotten Four Segment of the Lake Wobegon Trail
originally reported August 10, 2005

President Bush signed a transportation bill today that allots $281,600 to construct the "missing link" portion of the Lake Wobegon Trail from Sauk Centre to the Todd County line (4.4 miles).

Congressman Collin Peterson worked to include the funding as a "High Priority Project" in the federal Transportation Bill. The bill is called "SAFETEA-LU" (Safe, Accountable, Flexible and Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users).
These funds will be matched by $220,000 recently awarded to Stearns County for the FORGOTTEN FOUR in the State Bonding Bill passed in the recent session by the State Legislature.

The cost of the trail construction is anticipated to be about $400,000 to $500,000. Stearns County Park staff have already begun the initial planning phases by holding a public open house in Sauk Centre last July.Construction of the trail in 2006 will be the last segment of the Lake Wobegon Trail in western Stearns County. The project will be coordinated with a similar project being built on the same State railbank property from Osakis to the Stearns County line. This will link the Lake Wobegon Trail to the Central Lakes State Trail and create a 121 mile blacktopped separated bike path; probably the longest of its kind in the United States.

Wobegon Trail Keeps Growing
originally reported July 20, 2005

Construction has begun on the next phase of the Lake Wobegon Trail, which will run from Holdingford to the Morrison County Line.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Tuesday, July 12, 2005 with trail users and officials from the City of Holdingford, Holding Township and Stearns County in attendance.

This 3.6 mile extension of the trail will have the same uses as the rest of the trail: bicyclists, walkers and in-line skaters in the summer and snowmobilers (without studs) in the winter.

Construction on this portion of the trail is expected to be finished sometime this fall. Once completed, the Lake Wobegon Trail will run just under 50 miles, from Sauk Centre to St. Joseph and from Albany to the Morrison County line.
